Behavioral Health

About Us

At Florida Hospital Center for Behavioral Health (CBH), our goal is to create an atmosphere that promotes health, healing and hope. For more than 53 years Florida Hospital’s commitment to specialized behavioral health services span the entire age spectrum. Our team of highly experienced psychiatrists, nurses and allied professionals are devoted to caring for every individual.

Healing and recovery can require different paths for different people — we recognize one size does not fit all. Thus, a variety of treatment options are available through our program. The team at CBH is committed to improving the quality of life for each patient through compassion, care and expertise that truly integrates the whole person — mind, body and spirit.

Our Services

Evaluation

A comprehensive evaluation may be necessary to diagnose any number of emotional, behavioral or developmental disorders. The evaluation of the patient is made based on factors including psychological, medical and social issues, all of which play a role in developing a profile of each individual before treatment. Once a diagnosis is made, family involvement and active participation in treatment is extremely important for any individual with a mental health disorder. The physician will answer questions and provide reassurance to the patient to establish long- and short-term treatment goals.

Psychotherapy

Our team addresses the psychological, behavioral and family difficulties of our patients through the different modalities of psychotherapy, which sometimes may be the only treatment necessary, or can be accompanied by other treatment options.

Medication Management

For a significant number of psychiatric patients, medications are known to be a necessary, effective and safe treatment when managed well and supervised appropriately.

Pediatric to Geriatric Services

We offer specialized psychiatric services to people of all ages, including children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.

Brain Stimulation

We offer two unique alternatives for patients suffering from depression if they have failed treatment through anti-depressants:

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive treatment option for adults suffering from depression that have not had prior success with anti-depressant medication. TMS produces a magnetic field that affects only about two to three centimeters of the section of the brain involved with mood regulation and depression. This allows for precise, targeted treatment. Treatment is done five days a week for four to six weeks, with each treatment lasting about 40 minutes. Those who benefit from TMS see their symptoms improve over a period of weeks, with the possibility of elimination of all depression symptoms.

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is for individuals suffering from particular behavioral and emotional disorders such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and depression. It is most often used in the treatment of severe depression that has not responded to medications and psychotherapy, or in instances of acute depression in which the time necessary for effective use of a medication regiment would not be optimal. Many people begin to notice an improvement in their symptoms after two or three treatments with ECT, whereas response to anti-depressant medications, in comparison, can take several weeks or  more.
